When an ISP purchases a Web Accelerator product from the software manufacturer they use the manufacturer's network servers. This means the dial-up subscriber's Web traffic will be flowing to/from the subscriber and the network servers deployed in the Web Accelerator's network. This solution also does not allow any network "tuning" to optimize the traffic for to/from the servers and the dial-up network the subscriber uses.

Web Acceleration is a client/server system that optimizes the delivery of Web content to an ISP subscriber's computer by caching and compressing data closer to the subscriber to increase the speed of dial-up connections.
With Web Acceleration, Web sites will download and display for the first time in about half the time normally required on a 56K line. Subsequent page loads are delivered even faster.
In this client/server model, servers are deployed and await client Web page requests. The subscriber's client software will request and receive content from the Web Acceleration server in the form of an HTTP proxy.
This server is designed to service client requests by fetching Web content from its server cache and/or Web source, compressing and caching content. The server delivers this content to the subscriber's computer in a compressed form that minimizes the amount of data that needs to be delivered. The client then decompresses the data to be displayed on the subscriber's computer.
The client software installed on the subscriber's computer is designed to decompress the data that is compressed from the Web Accelerator server. The client software also utilizes its own local cache to serve images and text that has not changed since the last time the web page was visited. The content is then displayed on the subscriber's computer utilizing both of these compression and caching techniques.
